PUZZLE PROJECT in NY, 2011 / Calling for entries !

PUZZLE PROJECT in NY, 2011

The concept of the project: FUSION

This project will involve many different artists independently creating artwork on puzzle piece shaped canvases. All pieces will finally be connected and assembled creating one large puzzle. The artists will not know what each other are creating, and no one will know what the final creation will be until it is assembled.

The theme of the project:
EXCEEDING THE BOUNDARY OF NATION, RELIGION AND RACE WITH ART: IT WILL BE CONNECTED!

The world is a place where things connect and interconnect; they affect each other regardless of direct relations. This project will present a world showing how these interconnections and relations represent the order and disorder of existence. While politicians and big business may care little for the common people, we strongly believe that art will be able to expand the importance and feasibility of reconciliation; we don’t need further opposition and separation.

[New York Exhibition]
Date: August 23rd - 28th, 2011
Venue: Ouchi Gallery
170 Tillary Street Suite 507 Brooklyn, NY 11201

The Puzzle Project Office will prepare blank puzzle pieces and distribute them to participating artists. The artists will create their piece, return the finished work to the Puzzle Project, and all finished pieces will be assembled together. There is no limit to the number of participants (artists), the workshop participants and purchasers of the puzzle kit).

The Puzzle Project will prepare the blank puzzle pieces. Different shaped pieces will be randomly
chosen and distributed to the artists. The artists will then create their artwork using a medium of their choice (paint, print photo, collage, etc.) on ONE SIDE of the puzzle piece. DO NOT run off the puzzle piece’s edge. Once complete the finished artwork must be delivered to the puzzle projects designated office. The Puzzle Project organizers will then put the puzzles together and display. Pictures will be taken of the finished work. After the showing the pieces will be returned to the participants who want their piece back. Photos will be posted on the puzzle project website.

Select pieces of the project will continue on to future exhibitions around the world…the exhibition itself is an everlasting, expanding puzzle.

*For this showing you may write a message for the victims of the East Japan Pacific Coast Earthquake and Tsunami on the BACK side of the puzzle piece (English or Japanese)

Do not make art on the back side or the edges.
Please ensure that the thickness of the final piece is not more than 4 centimeters (It will not fit in the shipping carton otherwise).
Please ensure the actual gross weight is less than 1 kilogram. If the weight exceeds this amount you will need to pay more for shipping.
If the above are not adhered to, the Puzzle Project retains the right to refuse participation, exhibition and sale of the work. The participation fee will not be refunded.

Please do not create artwork that are illegal, physically dangerous, infringes on intellectual property rights (copyrights, patents, design, trade marks), and those that damage the reputation and/or privacy of others.

If the above are not adhered to, the Puzzle Project retains the right to refuse participation, exhibition and sale of the work. The participation fee will not be refunded.

COPYRIGHT OWNER OF THE PROJECT:

All artists will sign the back of their pieces and they will be countersigned by Takashi Inaba (Planner).
